Invictus - 2013
In 2013 Rabanne turned the idea of victory into a fragrance and gave Rabanne its modern masculine pillar. Invictus arrived as an Eau de Toilette built on a single collision, marine freshness against warm wood, and it became the reference point of a line that has kept growing around it. The house carries the name of its founder, Paco Rabanne.
Within the Invictus family, the original is the freshest and most versatile. It is lighter and more citrus-led than Invictus Parfum, which pushes the signature further with fresh lavender and addictive musk. It is drier than Invictus Victory and Invictus Victory Elixir, which leave the marine world for a gourmand oriental of vanilla and tonka bean. It is cooler than Invictus Victory Absolu, built on the contrast between biting black pepper and the mineral heat of ambergris and incense. Invictus Aqua takes the same freshness towards a frosted, iodised transparency.
The composition works on that contrast from the first spray to the last. Zesty grapefruit opens it, a salty marine accord holds the heart, and guaiac wood, magnetic patchouli and ambergris seal it close to the skin.
Made for daylight rather than for the night, Invictus suits sport, the office, everyday wear and warm weather, and it remains the most wearable entry point into the Invictus universe.
The Invictus bottle is a sculpted trophy in clear glass and silver, a shape borrowed from the winner's cup and turned into the visual signature of the entire line. Its faceted silhouette is what makes every later Invictus recognisable at a glance.
Set against the sea-blue glass of Invictus Aqua or the darker readings of the Victory fragrances, the original silver trophy is the reference edition. It communicates exactly what the fragrance does: bright, clean and built to be seen.
